All You need to know about Face Creams

“I have dash, dash skin, I don’t need a face moisturizer.”

STOP RIGHT THERE.

FIRST THINGS FIRST, YOU NEED TO USE FACE CREAMS NO MATTER WHAT TYPE OF SKIN YOU HAVE.

Now that that’s out of the way, let’s get to know everything we need to know about face moisturizers.

Since the beginning of the time skincare routines became a thing, moisturizers have been a part of it. This is because it is one of the most essential steps in a skincare routine and there are plenty of reasons why.

Moisturizers have been shown to increase the water concentration in your skin and hydrate the skin more efficiently. This relieves dryness and keeps your skin from overcompensating for the dryness by producing more sebum (oil). Your skin requires hydration and if you have a lack of it, it will generally produce lots of oil to relieve the dryness which can have drastic effects on your skin.

Not just that, but moisturizers help us maintain a young skin and combat signs of aging as well as the health of the skin. This is essentially because if your skin is well hydrated there is always a soft, supple glow. It also helps maintain the elasticity and plumpness of the skin.

With the huge number of moisturizers that are on the shelves, it often becomes a task figuring out which one would fit our skin the best and how to apply them. However, there are no-nonsense strategies to this. Let’s walk through them together.

What’s the right way of applying moisturizer?

Swipe, dab, spread, isn’t that it?

In short, no.

For starters, you should always apply moisturizer post-cleansing your face with wash and using all the other products you use. Basically, moisturizers should ideally be the last step in your skincare routine. They’re the most effective when used on slightly damp skin since it allows your skin to trap in moisture.

Once you have cleansed your face and applied the rest of your products, take a pea-sized amount of the moisturizer. Apply it to your face using fingertips and gently move them in a circular motion for full absorption. Don’t forget to get to your neck as well.

Basically, the three steps to it are:

  1. Cleanse
  2. Lightly exfoliate with cotton pads or a washcloth
  3. Apply moisturizer

When is the right time to moisturize?
Ideally, moisturizers should be used post cleansing your face. So, probably twice a day i.e., once during the day and the night.

It’s always a plus if you moisturize after showering or bathing to seal in the moisture more effectively.

Why is it so important?
As we mentioned before, moisturizing is the most important step in your skincare routine. This is because when the skin does not get adequate hydration, it tends to become rough and dry. Try our Finite 0.6 Moisturizing Cream to get moisturized, plump, hydrated skin with a non-greasy formula. This moisturizing cream is suitable for all skin types. It creates a barrier between the skin and external factors which may have a negative impact on the skin. It also allows you to rehydrate your skin and retain moisture more effectively. Doing this can make your skin look bright and plump!

What should we be looking for?
1. Antioxidants: it is a good practice to look for moisturizers that consist of antioxidants as they can neutralize free radicals. Free radicals are molecules that break down skin cells.

2. Non-comedogenic: these are moisturizers that do not clog your pores. Moisturizers with comedogenic ingredients may result in the clogging of pores which may, in turn, cause acne.

3. Face-friendly ingredients: what may be good for your body might not necessarily be good for your body. This is of importance when you decide that you could just use your body moisturizers in order to moisturize your face. Please, do not do that. Body moisturizers generally use heavy ingredients which may not be suitable for your face and may clog your pores.

  • Humectants: these are ingredients that pull water from the air onto your skin to give even more hydration.

  • Vitamins: these help reduce wrinkles and fine lines as they can stimulate the production of collagen.

  • Occlusives: they are oil-based products that can prevent the evaporation of water from the skin.

  • What are some tips to keep in mind?

  • Don’t overuse products: keep your skincare regimen simple and don’t add too many products. This can overwhelm the skin and even cause irritation.

  • Conduct patch tests: people have different types of skin and sometimes some products may not suit them. This is why it is always a good idea to conduct a patch test before using any product. The moment you notice any adverse reaction, contact a dermatologist immediately.

  • Be mindful of your skin: some people may have medical conditions such as cystic acne or contact dermatitis. In such cases, it is best to consult a dermatologist to get medically appropriate products for your skin.

  • Apply moisturizer on a damp face: for the most effective results always apply moisturizer on a damp face.

  • There you go, your no-nonsense guide for the right way to use a moisturizer. Moisturizers are relatively simple products, yet the most important. And, if you have not moisturized your face today, here is your indication to do so! Cheers to well-hydrated, radiant skin.
